Restaurant news: Dinner and yoga on menu at Govinda’s Bakery & Cafe

Updates on area eateries and shops, including Downtown Wine and Cheese, River Run Olive Oil Company, the Humble Pie and Off the Griddle food trucks, and Cheese Daddy locations.

River Run Olive Oil Company opened March 1 at 115 N. Main St. in High Springs.

The store offers 47 varieties of extra-virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars, as well as gift items such as Himalayan salt lamps, bath products made with olive oil, jewelry made with olive pits, local honey, and works by local artists.

Connie Casey, who owns the business with husband, Mike, said they are trying to appeal to people who want to be health conscious and use olive oil for its anti-inflammatory properties and vinegar for digestive health.

Customers can taste before they buy, with Connie Casey offering anything from popcorn with black truffle salt, a quiche made with olive oil or brownies with blood orange olive oil from her kitchen in the store, or on artesanal bread from Big Cypress Bakery.

Connie is a retired elementary school teacher and Mike retired as owner of Suwannee Valley Feeds in Trenton. She said she always wanted to do something in food and got the idea of an olive oil and balsamic vinegar store from visiting a similar store in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
